Canal Hard Going But Tench Show.
The Doubles Ban match, held on the Basingstoke Canal between Chequers & Swing Bridge, on the 1st August 2010 started well on an overcast but warm day. The tactics were to be float only and apart from the turning bay at Chequers bridge, there was no real distance casting needed for those using a rod and line. The whistle blew at 9am for the start of the match and the next five hours would see what the canal might deliver. For some the initial hour seemed to be quite fruitful, with Roach, Skimmer Bream and Perch being caught. The remaining hours then seemed to dry up with the fish becoming more fussy in what they would take and how long they would take the bait for. In general the mid to high end pegs fared better with the Tench being caught around pegs 10 and 11. The results are below.
